Christmas season is my favorite time of the year. The Nicolet’s house is already in full-on holiday mode. Our Christmas tree is up and my playlist of holiday songs are on repeat all day long. My motivation and excitement is on a high note during this time where I channel my inner Martha Stewart with baking and crafting.
My favorite thing to during this time is to create DIY decorations for the house. I go on a hunt for cheap holiday bits and bobs from grocery store or dollar stores to create DIY wreath, decoration setting for our mantel and table and gift wrappers.
Anthony and I made this ridiculously cute DIY snowman out of sports socks. It’s very easy and you can have fun customizing the snowman’s look. It’s a great way to spend way an afternoon with your family or friends.
Scroll down for a step-by-step look at how to make this easy DIY Snowman
MATERIALS NEEDED:
1kg of rice, sports socks, scrap cloth, buttons, sewing pins, thick thread, glue, fabric scissors.
Step 1: Cut the sock in half, an inch away from the heel.
Step 2: Using the part with the heel, turn the sock inside out and tie the tip tightly, going around a few times to secure it in place.
Step 4: Take the sock with the opening and wrap it around a masking tape or anything circular. This will serve as a funnel when stuffing the rice into the sock.
Step 5: Fill the socks with rice all the way to the top. Shape the socks until you get a bulkier bottom that will form as the body of the snowman.
Step 6: Secure the top with a thick thread and tie it tightly.
Step 7: Create the head by tying a thick thread around the neck area.
Step 8: Cut a strip of the fabric of your choice and wrap it around the neck as a scarf.
Step 9: Glue 2 buttons in the belly area.
Step 10: Take the other part of the sock (foot part) and roll it a few times until it forms as the beanie. Wrap it on the snowman.
Step 11: Add some character to your snowman by taking three pins to form the face. We made ours with a wonky face.
Voila! It might sound like a lot of steps but this can be that within an hour. Enjoy!
