When I wanted a Moana themed party for her 2nd birthday…
It’s amazing what difference a year can make. Last year, Naomi had a woodland bunny party for her 1st birthday and who would have thought that I would be organizing a batman birthday party for a girl this year?
Naomi thinks she is Batman and that’s one of the many things I love and celebrate about her. She has a growing a collection of books, toys, and clothes that naturally, led to her request for a ‘Happy Birthday Batman’ party.
So I delete the Moana-themed party board idea on Pinterest and start my research for Batman birthday party for a girl - the results, or lack thereof, depressed me! Not only was there lack of ideas for a batman birthday party for a girl, but the few I found leaned towards Batgirl than the actual superhero, assuming that it never happened before. And that’s when I wanted to do it even more—because we need women warriors in todays world.
I thought about designing it myself, but that quickly went out of the window because I lack the patience or art skills required for this job. That led to a deep ‘insta-stalking’ search for a party design company and Once Upon a Party Doha stood out immediately. After one briefing session, I was hand delivered a special basket filled with DIY supplies.
For any moms looking for a party design company, here’s how it all came about and some useful tips in getting the most out of your time and money.
When briefing a party design company, it’s a good idea to send visual references and a short description of what you would like before the actual briefing session.
I had told Once Upon a Party that I would like to have a Batman party that is classy and modern. Annie, a mompreneur knew exactly what I wanted and came with image references and examples for our meeting. At our briefing session, I mentioned that the party is going to be intimate and low-key at our home with a few of Naomi’s close friends. No children’s table set-up, face painting, or a bouncy castle.
We decided to work on one area, which was the banquet table and she worked on a few highlight pieces that I can put together the morning of.
THE DO-IT-YOURSELF BASKET
Once Upon a Party Doha worked around a black and silver color themes. It was the perfect combination of badass and girly, maintaining Batman’s identity with an added girliness of the sparkly metallic silver accent.
A DIY basket was hand delivered to my house a week before the party and everything was packaged and organized properly, that even a DIY-challenged mom would be able to understand.
In the basket were Batman wall decals in different sizes, 4 pieces of garlands (each garland was placed in one packet) that spells out “Happy 2nd Birthday Naomi”. Each garland was placed in a branded packet complete with strings so all I had to do was string it, which was a 5-minute job. My favorite of all though, was the Batman mask party favor for her guests.
