Adult acne is like a bad ex-boyfriend that haunts you forever.
With my decade long battle with acne, I have tried a ton of skincare products for acne-prone skin from Dermalogica to Accutane. Sadly, there is no magic potion that clears your skin from acne. What I’ve learned is to understand what triggers your breakouts, and implement preventative measures to keep your acne at bay. Stress used to be my main culprit, but life threw hormonal imbalance into the mix, and gave me the worst acne breakouts in my life when I was pregnant – there was no pregnancy glow for this mama!
Ever since then, I have been on the lookout for skincare products for acne-prone skin. I started with pregnancy-safe products and gradually introduced more dermatological-grade products - many recommended by you!
So here goes some of the skincare products that are worth trying out for adult, hormonal acne.
Avene Cleansing Gel (available at all leading pharmacy)
Recommended to me by my dermatologist many years ago, this still remains my go to cleanser for acne-prone skin. It’s a mild soap-free cleanser that removes impurities and excess oils without stripping your skin with moisture. I think it’s important to use a mild cleanser as a start of any skincare routine regardless of your skin condition.
Biologique Recherche P50 Toner (available at Four Seasons Doha)
This toner is one of the products I’ve been using religiously for the last couple of years because it’s a serious game changer, it’s no wonder it gained such a cult status in the beauty world. It’s responsible for changing the quality of my skin and treating my acne, especially around my chin and temples. This product, available at Four Seasons Doha comes with a hefty price tag, but if there is one product I would recommend you to buy – is this.
La Roche Posay Effacer Duo (available at all leading pharmacy)
This cream-gel lotion is a great preventative treatment that I use everyday. It helps remove any imperfection as well as prevent any new ones from popping up thanks to its salicylic acid content. It also leaves my skin with a silky feeling and it’s not drying at all.
ZO Skin Health Aknetrol Acne Treatment (available at Boots)
This bad boy has 10% Benzoyl Peroxide, so my recommendation is to use it only when you have a stubborn or angry looking zit that needs to be cleared overnight.
Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum (available at iHerb)
Technically not an acne product, but I incorporated Vitamin C serum in my skincare routine because of its antioxidant properties, production of collagen, and anti-aging solution. This particular serum smells great, and easy to massage into the skin. It’s become a vital part of my skincare regime.
Avene Skin Recovery Cream (available at all leading pharmacy)
I have been loyal to my Embriolyse cream for a few years now and have been on a lookout for a good alternative that I can find in Doha. This Avene Skin Recovery Cream has quickly become my Holy Grail moisturizer and perfect for Doha’s dry desert environment. It’s rich with the brand’s famous thermal spring water, it calms any redness or sensitivity in the skin while keeping it moisturized and balanced.
There you have it – my top skincare products for acne-prone skin that came highly recommended by most of you.
