It’s hard to believe I have not been to Richard Serra’s east-west/west-east public art installation since its unveiling considering that we travel to the far ends of Qatar to find shoot locations.
We quickly organized a day trip with friends to catch the sunrise, which meant a 3:00 AM call time. We made there on time to catch the sunrise. I stood there in silence and took in the magnitude of the place. I felt a sense of greatness in the middle of a desolated space and was reminded that we, as human beings are a tiny speck in this planet. Richard Serra’s art is truly spellbinding.
Of course, we took this opportunity to shoot against this magnificent backdrop and decided to shoot it in Black and White to really bring out the energy of Richard Serra. Keeping in line with the structural objects and clean space, I opted for a classic minimal look with a stand out piece from Material.
This shoot easily goes on my top photoshoot projects to date, seamlessly blending art and fashion.
