Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner single-handedly made leggings cool again. Luckily for me, that’s all what I’ve been wearing throughout my pregnancy. Of course, my version and their version couldn’t be more different. Unless you have hard rock abs and perfectly toned toosh, then flaunt those assets and take a stylish cue from the supermodels.
But if you’re a lazy mortal like me, I’m here to show you how to make leggings appropriate for work and play whether you’re pregnant or not. We finally have an excuse to wear the most comfortable loungewear all the time. I call this a fashion victory for ladies.
So how can we get away with wearing leggings and not look like we just stepped out of the house? Apply the third-piece rule. It’s simple; your legging outfit should consist of three pieces, excluding shoes. It could be leggings + shirt + scarf or leggings + t-shirt + blazer.
For this month’s style the bump series, here are three ways to wear leggings.
Dressing in one solid color including shoes gives an illusion of height and long lean legs. This structured army jacket is my third pieces, which is also my statement piece. I then added one accessory to complete the whole outfit.
You can totally get away with wearing t-shirt, leggings and sneakers on the weekend. Elevate this look by adding a long vest coat or sleeveless vest that covers your bum.
Leggings can work in the office. All you need to redirect the attention on the top part of the body by wearing a structured shirt and blazer. Just make sure the length is modest enough that it hits around the thigh or above the knee. Also, avoid sky-high heels with this look and opt for black booties or loafers.
