Fashion houses like Chanel are Dior are exclusive brands that I admire from a distance, the ridiculous price points alone automatically give me ulcer. Prices aside, their clothes are just not adaptable for mortals like us who work a 9-5 job. There’s one high-end brand though that’s been grabbing my attention each season: Saint Laurent. I started closely following Saint Laurent’s collection since Hedi Slimane debuted his first collection in 2012. Inspired by the house’s bohemian influences in the 1970’s, billowy blouses with large chiffon bows, tuxedo jackets, oversized wide-brimmed hats and sequined jackets filled the runway- I wanted everything!
My obsession grew when rock royalties Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson became the faces of the campaign (photographed by the designer). It’s confirmed, Saint Laurent is the leader of rocker chic.
This season’s pre-fall collection (featuring my favorite model Freja Beha) is nothing short of rocker sophistication. Leather jacket, cashmere sweater, silk shirt, duffel bags, and smoking tuxedo are some covetable pieces. With the return of 90s grunge, I’m taking a cue from Saint Laurent’s runway looks where models paraded in flannel shirts, floral dresses, boots and chunky sweaters. In fact, Vogue’s September issue editorial starring Edie Campbell was greatly inspired by the grunge period made cool again by Saint Laurent.
Here are my top picks (in no particular preference) from Saint Laurent… this would potentially leave me bankrupt.
