Qatar is home for almost 18 years now. Looking back, I had an incredible opportunity to have witnessed some of the country’s momentous occasions: 2006 Asian Games, the opening of Museum of Islamic Art, the first ever Doha Tribeca Film Festival, and last week, I got to witness another historical moment with the arrival of Qatar Airways A380.
More than 500 guests and international and local press gathered to witness the first super-jumbo A380 touchdown at Hamad International Airport. One of the airports largest hangars transformed into a world-class event venue for the celebratory launch. Addressing the guests at a press conference, Qatar Airways CEO, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said that this is a proud moment not only for Qatar Airways but also for the State of Qatar. That was felt as the hangar doors dramatically opened with aerial dancers suspended from the ceiling, unveiling the stunning aircraft.
The best part of this event was obviously the tour of the plane. 8 seats in First-Class, 48 Business Class, and 461 Economy Class with premium Economy located at the second deck. Qatar Airways A380 will take its first flight QR001 to London Heathrow on 10 October.
Who wants to go to London?
