A couple of days ago, my husband had asked me to help him find a perfume since I’m a woman of taste and style (his words, not mine). After testing perfume number two, I soon realized it to be a daunting task. Just as women struggle to find a signature scent, men have no clue where to start. ‘Citrus’, ‘floral’, ‘woody’ are gibberish words to most men and if you ask them what kind of smell they like, they will tell you ‘the good kind’.
Having tested so many perfumes, I thought it would be a good idea to put together a list of top perfumes for men. I hope that this will help not only men, but also to guide women in buying a perfume for the man in their life.
Let’s give Acqua Di Gio a rest shall we?
1. Hermes Terre d’Hermes, $81, Sephora
Woody with a hint of citrus. For the older men who loves a good cigar and cognac. This perfume has an earthy smell with a hint of orange when you first spritz it on. A good everyday perfume as it has a sense of casual effortless luxury that is very Hermes.
2. Dior Eau Sauvage, $65, Sephora
Citrusy and Fresh. For the man that loves the sun and beach. This perfume takes me back to France, driving along the coast of Cote D’Azur. Summery, fresh, yet refined and understated.
3. Acqua Di Parma Colonia Essenza, $107, Blue Salon
Citrusy and Peppery. For the uber masculine man. Acqua Di Parma range is the essence of Italian luxury. Their whole range is absolutely amazing but this one stands out for its magnetizing smell of citrus and a touch of smokiness. Luxurious and classic.
4. Jimmy Choo Man, $62, Sephora
Sweet and Musky. For the modern and trendy man. Jimmy Choo’s first fragrance for men is intriguingly good and has a modern smell. This would suit someone who is trendy and have an edge of rock ‘n’ roll. John Snow fronts the perfume campaign, need I say more?
5. Chanel Blue De Chanel, $68, Sephora
Seductive and Clean. A perfume that will make women will fall in love with. I find this perfume romantic and very sensual. A good everyday perfume as it’s clean and not overpowering.
6. DSquared He Wood Ocean Wet Wood, $60, Sephora
Fresh and Woody. For the man who loves nature and being outside. This for me smells like camping on a crisp winter day, where you can smell the fresh air, trees and the ocean. This is definitely one of our favorite perfume we tested, especially this winter season.
7. Dolce & Gabanna The One Sport, $65, Sephora
Fresh and Sporty. For the sporty, laid back man. If you are looking for a range similar to Allure Sport, this perfume takes it one step further. Fresh, clean and energetic but still maintains a luxurious feel.
8. Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur, $200, D’NA Doha
Musky. For the sophisticated man. Frederic Malle is a popular French perfumer that offers a range of unique blends that’s suitable for both men and women. Musc Ravageur is what you would expect from the name: musky with a blend of cinmamon and vanilla. A favorite of my father-in-law ,Patrice Alexandre.
9.Yves Saint Laurent L’Homme, $67, Sephora
Woody with a hint of spice. For the man that works in a corporate environment. This is Anthony’s go-to perfume and it’s definitely magnetizing especially when he is in his suit. This is a timeless and luxurious fragrance.

Aaah this blog post is probably the most useful one for men you ever did.
It’s always so hard to pick a good perfum.
And I’m sure ladies will find it useful as well to make a gift for their man.
I’m personally a big fan of:
L’Homme and Wood.
What a great piece!! Very helpful…
This is a great post! All the men in my family love a quality bottle of cologne. I’ll be sure to share this round up with them…Happy Wednesday 🙂

Nice picks! My husband’s all-time favourite is Hugo Boss Orange, the silver sphere one. He’s been using it since high-school and it’s definitely his signature scent.

Ahhhh Hugo Boss is always a good idea. Their range all smell amazing.
Great list! I’m a Bleu de Chanel man, myself. And while I still enjoy it, I’m constantly in the market for a more dynamic sense of scents, which is why cologne is ALWAYS a great gift (and lists like this so helpful). I think I’ll give this Dior Eau Sauvage a whirl to get me in a summery mood while I dig out of a cold and snowy Canadian winter. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for dropping a note Steve! I do remember you mixing colognes. You just earned cool brownie points for appreciating men fragrances. haha.
Great post! I find men so difficult to buy for so a breakdown of what scents may suit which type of man is super useful.
Good to know! My husband helped me narrow the perfume down and gave me the idea to categorize them by characteristics.
Tell him to try Creed Aventus. It’s a real crowd pleaser.
oooooh! must test that out. Thanks for the recommmendation!
